So i have decided to play more Magic this year. That probably sounds like a weird statement coming from someone who runs a gaming shop but most of you that come to the shop know that I haven't played much in the last year or so. I think i just lost enthusiasm for the game. Maybe because I wasn't playing in any high level tournaments anymore so I forgot what its like to play a game for the fun of it. So in an effort to find the passion i lost in the game I love i decided to try the FNM Hero challenge. The idea is that i will have a budget of $150 to buy enough cards for a deck and pay for all the supplies and entry fees. I am going to post tournament reports here every week so you guys can follow my progress. Hopefully I can keep this going all year and we can see if it is possible to play Magic on a budget at your local gaming shop. I picked a black/green control style deck to try. I bought some cheap ultra pro sleeves the shop has on sale a small plastic deck box a life pad and a box to hold the cards. I also bought 5 packs of cards. The best card i got was a foiled Cathartic Reunion. That all came to $116.39. So i have $33.61 left for tournaments. Here are the rules I set for myself. 1. $150 Budget for everything including sleeves, deck boxes, entry fees. 2. If I trade any of the cards i have bought or won through prize support it has to be at a loss (to prevent people from giving me good trades because there nice) 3. Packs won can only be traded into the store for entry fees. This will make me open the packs for fun and interact with people to trade.($2.50 per pack for store credit) 4. No one can concede to me or donate to advance my progress. 5. Anytime i open packs Patrick or Jaye will be there to verify what I open. 6. I am going to use TCG Market pricing for all card prices. 7. If you play me in the tournaments and lose you will receive a pack.
