One of the highlights of our 2016 interior season, this custom built handrail took well over a hundred hours to finish. Hard to believe? The steps included - caulking every seam of every piece of wood, filling hundreds of nail holes, oil priming and then sanding all the white pieces, 2 finish coats on 9 detailed posts, 2 coats of oil stain on all the wall mounts and handrails, filling all holes with stain putty, followed by 3 coats of semi-gloss polyurethane, with careful sanding in between...that's what it takes sometimes to get a project done right. If you have custom built details in your home, and you need expert finish work, please give us a call at 413-735-9288!

The new owners of this beautiful log home, set on an equally beautiful property in Montgomery, MA, hired us to get her back into shape, after way too many years of neglect. We used 39 ( yes, 39!!!) gallons of Benjamin Moore's Arborcoat semi-solid oil stain, using a "wet second" technique, with our airless sprayer and back-brushing each coat. Unlike the older style, high VOC stains of the past, this product cures with a waterproofing sheen. For the most severely dried out areas across the back, we recommended letting the coating "season" for a year, and then applying more, because it really needs it and it's in the sun all day. But still, the results made it go from looking like "house jerky" ( thanks for that phrase, Mike M.!) to nearly brand new! We work hard for our clients to find the right products, and use the right application methods, to give them the best job we can. Call us if you'd like an estimate for your home, inside and out. 413-735-9288

When you're working on new raw wood inside, always use a good quality oil primer. Inevitably, the primer is going to raise the wood grain and give the surface a very rough feel and appearance. It should be sanded thoroughly with fine sandpaper and a sanding block, to create a very smooth surface for finish painting. Latex primers aren't appropriate for this application, because they do not sand well, and will leave a much rougher surface. This is just one of the many many aspects of painting where people aren't aware of the right way, and often make mistakes that are hard to undo. If you have any projects for painting, call a professional - we are always available to give you a free estimate! (413) 735-9288
