Cedar Springs is located just 20 minutes north of Michigan’s second largest city, Grand Rapids. Situated in northern Kent County, Cedar Springs covers about 1.3 square miles and has a population of 3,112 based on the 2000 census. The community was named for the fine springs bordered by a grove of Cedar trees. Less than a mile from US 131, Cedar Springs provides easy access to the cultural amenities of the greater Grand Rapids area. Cedar Springs is an attractive community with tree-lined streets and a varied housing base. Taxes in Cedar Springs have remained steady with the City millage rate of 16.3414.

Cedar Springs has a small retail business district and a stable industrial base. The community has vast possibilities for future growth. Significant industry and business have been attracted to the Cedar Springs area, including Wolverine World Wide and various precision tool and die companies.

Cedar Springs is part of the Cedar Springs Public School district, which encompasses 110 square miles and is comprised of the City of Cedar Springs and 7 surrounding townships. Cedar Springs Public Schools are located on a single 100 acre campus near downtown Cedar Springs. The school system has recently completed a $27 million building and renovation project.

The Cedar Springs Area Parks and Recreation Board is actively exploring new means to provide programs for youth and adults. The annual Red Flannel Festival was first celebrated in 1939, making it one of the oldest festivals in Michigan. Red Flannel Day takes place on the first Saturday in October to celebrate the famous “drop seat” red long johns and red flannel nightwear.
