Have you all had a chance to meet our employee Gretchen George Dietrich yet? Well now is your chance to meet Fleet Feet's Iron Woman! Gretchen has been battling cancer for 9 years and is one of the strongest women we know. Here is her testimony: "I am grateful that Mizuno is donating some of their proceeds to Breast Cancer. If it weren't for donations like these I wouldn't be here today! People always say you don't look like you have stage 4 cancer, you look so healthy. How can you run marathons and do triathlons going through chemo? I always say because I exercise and eat right; I'm still living so I won't sacrifice my goals. Living a healthy lifestyle and keeping a positive attitude helps me fight my cancer. 9 years ago, while I was training for my 4th marathon, I was diagnosed with having breast cancer. I never felt sick nor did I locate any lumps while doing self-examinations. While at the doctor I found out there was a lump on the inside of my breast, and I could not reach that spot doing self-examinations. Running helped me through my worst days at first. After my initial treatment plan I was in remission, but I still had to continue my treatments because I was diagnosed with having HER2 Cancer. After that treatment I had success for a year, but soon relapsed to stage 4 again; but unfortunately this time the cancer spread to my liver and my lymph nodes. When I relapsed I was in the process of training for the Ford Ironman competition. If I had not noticed an unusual lymph node I would have never known that the cancer reappeared. After completing the competition, I started an intense chemo regiment, but it was not producing success as my first treatment did. If it wasn't for an experimental drug that had been recently approved by the FDA at the time I would not be here. This past December my cancer spread to my bones, and I started my miracle drug again. For 30 minutes every 3 weeks I would go to chemo as well as having a 3-port catheter put in because my veins were in bad shape from previous battles. Unfortunately I will never be able to go without chemo, but this miracle drug allows me to experience minimal side effects and enjoy my life to the fullest! 😃 I tell people there are no excuses! Sure there are days I'm sick and tired and I do not want to run, but the best cure is to be active! If you can't run, walk; and if you can't walk, crawl. With any purchase of a Mizuno Rider and/or Mizuno Pink Ribbon T-shirt, Mizuno donates money towards the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. So come in and help us help more people like Gretchen!
