It might not be a 4,000-footer, but that doesn’t mean the journey won't have its challenges. When climbing Mt. Cardigan, a 3,156 ft. peak in the Whites, IG's coreyoutdoors observed: “My camera was frozen. We pushed our way to summit, realizing we were only going to be there to enjoy it for a very short amount of time before needing to go back down out of necessity. Every inch of the ground was a slab of ice; an ice different than most I’m used to. It made me feel alienated by the ground I’ve so familiarly walked before. We quickly regained our momentum, but in the opposite direction, stopping only briefly to wonder if the morning sun would break through...” Whether in the Whites, ADKs, or Catskills, which under 4,000-foot peaks have you climbed this winter?

IG's michael_danila reminded us to: “Stay warm out there, everyone! Some areas of the Northeast are hitting -100 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chills today. As much as I enjoy winter hiking, there are limits to be put on certain adventures.” When you’re facing these conditions, or find the temperature has dropped sharply when you start your journey, how do you “stay warm”?

Amongst the Whites in New Hampshire, Acadia in Maine, and the Adirondacks, adventures in the Northeast often involve scaling one or more peaks with a single hike. As such, Vermont tends to be skipped over. Yet, as IG's patbly notes, it’s the state to visit when you want to take in the scenery: “Wish I spent more time in Vermont as a kid. There're so many beautiful spots like these that have me itching to come back.” What’s your favorite place to visit in Vermont, and why?
