This #DentalFAQ is surprising but it makes sense. Even though tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, it still needs to be protected!

Dr. Rankin's granddaughter Gigi came by for a visit today! We enjoyed meeting this little sweetheart!

Since school started we have been receiving a lot of questions from parents regarding a form sent home from Statesville Family Dentistry, informing parents about the "Voluntary Iredell-Statesville Dental Program" It offers parents the availability of some dental procedures such as exams, cleanings, and fluoride treatments. It also states that if time prevails they can do sealants for your child. Our office believes strongly about preventive dental care procedures such as the ones mentioned in the letter. However, we have encountered issues and questions. If your child has a REGULAR dentist and they see their regular dentist every 6 months for exams, cleaning and fluoride and if necessary the placement of sealants this program is not an option you need for you child. Your dental insurance and or Medicaid only allows 2 dental check ups per year and the placement of sealants once in a lifetime. If your child is seen thru the " Voluntary Iredell-Statesville Dental Program" for a checkup and then returned to their regular dentist, the insurance will not cover that visit leaving you responsible for the charges. At our office when the dentist recommends the placement of sealants and they are completed, they are guaranteed for three years. If sealants are placed through this program they cannot be followed or replaced. We are thrilled that dental care is being offered to children through this program, however, if your child has a regular dentist you do not need this service. If you have questions please call our office at 704-872-6534

The goal of brushing is to remove plaque from your teeth, but plaque is actually pretty soft! Brushing too hard only serves to wear down your mouth's natural defenses and can actually lead to bigger problems down the road. Toothpaste is abrasive, so let it do the hard work! #DentalFAQ
