Join Davey Tree volunteers at the David Tate Urban Forestry Service Day this Saturday at 2409 Webber Ave. Richmond, Virginia, to honor our employee Phillip Tate's late brother. "My brother David was my mentor and is the reason I'm an arborist. He taught me to appreciate nature and the importance of coexisting with it in our urban forest. My family is grateful to all who honor my brother by caring for trees," Phillip said.
I just want to personally thank my boss man, District Manager of Richmond, VA, Mark Bennett, for honoring my brother, David. David passed away years ago. He was a pioneer climber that set high bars amongst the aspiring apprentices he trained. Dave was a true Arborist, he loved trees and was happiest, in canopy, on rope. He had drive and determination. He was safe, efficient and adapted with whatever tools given or lacked... My brother, David was my mentor, he is the reason i am an Arborist. He taught me to appreciate nature and the importance of coexisting with it in our urban forest. He had undoubtedly made this same impact on our Richmond community. This is why we gather annually in city parks and schools with many companies and groups as one, to "do work," as he said, and express what David was all about. Mark and Davey contributed to this Day of service from the start and before i was even a member of the Davey Tree Company; and i will add that my brother was not Davey. He just loved trees. My family is grateful to all who honor my brother by caring for trees. Thank you.

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, archaeologists recently discovered an unusual artifact – a Presidential face pipe! Factories in Germany produced the likenesses of Zachary Taylor (1849-1850), Millard Fillmore (1850-1853) and Franklin Pierce (1853-1857) as tobacco pipes for export to America. WSSI found a #President Fillmore pipe bowl, which would have sported a detachable reed stem, rather than the clay stem of earlier colonial kaolin pipes. #archeology
