The ceremony features songs that pay tribute to fallen first responders performed live by veteran singer-songwriter Mike Corbin and a ceremonial casket that was hand painted by wrecker-artist Cecil Burrowes, featuring images of tow operators and other first responders at risk on the highway. The Spirit Ride ceremony is followed by a procession of tow trucks, fire trucks, emergency medical trucks, police cruisers and highway patrol motor bikes. Capital Towing & Recovery, Inc. will lead the parade of trucks carrying the ceremonial casket on a car-carrier bed. The Spirit Ride's mission is to promote public awareness of the state's Move-Over law, which requires vehicles approaching flashing lights on the roadside to slow down and move over one lane. Studies have shown than 70% of the motoring public are unaware of the law, while those who are aware often disregard it. The ceremonial casket, named Spirit is being relayed around the nation in over 250 towns and cities large and small. Over 5,000 tow trucks and emergency service vehicles are participating in the Ride, which began on June 1st in Massachusetts and will end in the Fall of 2018 in California.
