Billingsley BP Service Center & Towing shared Illinois State Police District 10 Pesotum's post.
In an effort to prevent false rumors about this already dreadful situation, we would like to inform everyone that our evening tow operator was injured last night in this accident. He has a lot of broken bones, but we thank God that he is here with us and is going to be okay. He is one of the safest, most professional operators we've ever had, so this is no fault of his own. This is the result of another careless driver who all too often strike tow operators, construction workers, police officers, first responders and others who work along the highways. Many times, these accidents are fatal. We are very thankful that this isn't the case with our friend and employee. (The second individual in this incident was the customer of the vehicle, not another tow driver. He is going to be fine as well with only minor injuries.) We would like to thank the Macon County Sheriff's Dept, the ISP, the Argenta Fire Dept, and Decatur Ambulance for their swift response in getting these guys the help they needed, and the ISP for their determination to find this driver. Please keep both men in your prayers and keep a lookout for any vehicle that matches the description given by the ISP. Thank you.
Two tow truck workers were struck on I-72 tonight in a hit and run crash.
ISP is on the scene of the crash on I-72 eastbound near milepost 148. The vehicle that fled the scene is believed to be a silver Ford Taurus with front bumper passenger side damage. The front bumper on the passenger side may still have dark blue jean material attached. The damage also may include the black plastic engine guard/ground effects panel. Both tow truck operators were outside working on loading a truck to their flatbed tow truck which was parked on the shoulder of I-72 at milepost 148. The silver car passed the fog line striking both men. They both have severe injuries.
The ISP is requesting if anyone has any information to please contact District 10 Headquarters at 217-867-2050.
