Bottling this year's first batch of honey in memory of Alice Boynton, "Mom", the ultimate "Queen Bee", who gave life to all the "Boynton Busy Bee" children! Hope this summer at the Magical Moon Farm is a thriving growing year! One of our Queen Bees arrived special delivery by Miranda Boynton on her way home to start her summer job working at Hingham and Duxbury Orthodontics. Stacia Marie and Dr. Boynton had fun filling jars and keep the honey flowing today!

Boynton's Busy Bees The Magical Moon Foundation Bee Fund I send this note to challenge our patients to help the Bee Education Fund at the Magical Moon Farm. The bees are needed to pollinate the organic gardens at the Farm. I became interested in becoming a beekeeper 10 years ago when my brother, Scott N. Boynton, in Colorado took up the hobby for the use of bee sting therapy to slow the progression of his Multiple Sclerosis. I initially began with bees in my back yard thinking it would be a fun and easy hobby to share ideas with him and enjoy at home. After losing my hives 2 years in a row, I began researching what could be happening. The next year I tried treating the for mites, since that seemed to be a common theme. Again I lost all the hives. After much research I considered to possibility that the bees could be exposed to chemicals in our neighborhood. I was sharing my beekeeping challenges with Donna Green, the founder of the Magical Moon Foundation, to see if she had any experience with losing bees. She had heard of others experiencing similar losses and mentioned she was currently looking for more bees at her farm because she had recently expanded her farming area. It made sense through that conversation to pack up my bees and move them to a healthier environment where they could feed on organic produce. Over the years I have had hives make it through to the next growing season, but other times I lose them during the winter months. This past winter we lost several hives. Although the bees were able to produce lots of honey something ended their life before the hibernating season was over. Beekeeping is a hobby of love and patience. The energy I get back when I work with my bees at the farm is worth all the effort! The idea that the bees are helping the farm grow and be successful, even though we lose more than we would wish each year, keeps me trying again each year to help them survive and thrive. For the next several months I am challenging friends, family, staff and patients to donate to the bee fund at the foundation. For every donation made by someone in my network I will match the donation. Together we can help to keep the bees alive and perhaps discover what is killing them all across the country. I also encourage you to take a trip to the Magical Moon Foundation this summer to see the bees and the beautiful gardens.
