Pilot Dogs, Inc. was established in 1950 to train and furnish Pilot Dogs to guide the blind. Since its first class of four students, the program has grown to serve more than 150 individuals each year. These individuals come to us from all over the United States, as well as many foreign countries.
Our original mission has not changed: To provide the finest of dog guides to the qualified sightless. Pilot Dogs are trained to offer greater mobility and independence.
Pilot Dogs are available to legally blind individuals who would benefit from such dogs. An individual is considered legally blind if the visual acuity in their better eye is 20/200 with the best possible correction, or their visual field is 20 degrees or less.
