Advocate Heart Institute cardiologist Dr. Jeffrey Neiger is ready and waiting to perform Advocate Trinity Hospital's first subcutaneous implantable cardiac device (S-ICD) heart procedure. S-ICDs treats irregular heart rhythms but are less invasive than traditional ICDs, which connect a small generator to the heart via tiny wires inserted through a system of veins. As a result, S-ICDs have a lower risk for infection, and leaves the heart and vasculature untouched. This offers new hope for patients with heart failure in addition to kidney disease and certain cancers. Click here to learn more about S-ICDs: http://ow.ly/dfWm30ew0Ub

Julie, a participant at our Adult Down Syndrome Center, met Chicago Cubs MVP Kris Bryant today and decided that this might be her only opportunity to ask him a very important question. So she dug up the courage to drop down and propose to Kris... right in front of his wife, Jessica! Would you do the same thing? 💍

Chicago Cubs MVP Kris Bryant and his wife, Jessica, surprised some of their biggest fans this morning at our Adult Down Syndrome Center. They knew that someone special was coming to visit, but had no idea who! When Kris and Jessica rounded the corner, squeals broke out and tears started flowing. The third baseman answered questions, took photos and signed autographs. Everyone was ecstatic when Kris flipped the script and asked for THEIR autograph on a pair of his cleats, which he will be wearing for “Players Weekend.” Thank you, Kris and Jessica! Our patients will cherish these memories forever.

#TravelTuesday to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital's Smart Farm! This three-season high-tunnel hoop house allows adults and children learning opportunities in sustainable gardening. You'll find a variety of plots scattered across their sprawling campus. All of the fresh produce that is grown is donated to local food pantries to support neighbors in need. Smart Farm of Barrington donates close to 8,000 pounds of produce each year! Many of the farm's volunteers work at the hospital, and food scraps from the hospital's kitchen are used for compost to nourish the garden's soil. Learn how to volunteer or make a donation at smartfarms.org.
