Jack’s Truck & Equipment was started July1st, 1982 in Gillette, WY, by Jack Chafee as an independent heavy equipment repair company. Jack had purchased a new 1-ton service truck and started calling on contractors in the Gillette area to find equipment he could repair for them. Jack’s reputation for quality service work was well documented in that area and he soon had more work than he could do himself, so he bought another truck and hired another mechanic. In 1985, Jack was able to build his first shop to work on the equipment.
As the business grew, so did the need for more shop space and service trucks. The original shop was expanded four different times and additional buildings were built to keep up with the growing demand. Through the years Jack added a parts department and a sales and rental department. As the business grew in new directions, Jack’s Truck & Equipment was awarded many different dealerships for heavy trucks and equipment. In 2000, Jack’s Truck & Equipment became the first Sterling truck dealer in Wyoming, and just a year and a-half later obtained the Western Star brand of trucks, when Sterling bought Western Star. Then in 2002, the Freightliner brand of trucks became available in Wyoming and Jack’s Truck & Equipment became the dealer for most of Wyoming. In September 2002, a store was opened in Casper followed in 2004 with a store in Rock Springs. In January of 2003, a new state-of-the-art facility was completed at the Gillette location. This was followed up by building a new facility in Casper in 2007 and a new facility in Rock Springs in 2009.
Today, Jack’s Truck & Equipment is well known across Wyoming for providing quality trucks and heavy equipment from Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star, New Holland Construction, Gehl, and more. With the three locations in Gillette, Casper, & Rock Springs that provide parts and service support for all the represented brands, Jack’s Truck & Equipment offer’s exceptional products with unmatched support.
Jack Chafee was able to retire from the business in 2011, but both of his sons Kevin and Richard Chafee continue to work daily in the company. Jack’s Truck & Equipment is a family owned business that offers their employee’s the ability to continue to improve their skills, earn a good income, and continue to live in Wyoming.
