Since 1993, AHA has created over 900 affordable homes throughout the East Bay and brings award-winning architectural designs and cutting-edge green building methods housing for the community’s most needy populations, including former foster youth, low income seniors, homeless individuals and people with mental disabilities. AHA directly manages our own properties to ensure our residents the best quality services and to provide employment opportunities to low-income community members. AHA's Housing Development Department assesses project feasibility, acquires sites, assembles necessary financing, and oversees the design and construction process using environmentally sustainable principles. Our buildings have received numerous national awards from Affordable Housing Finance Magazine, the Urban Land Institute, the AIA and Pacific Coast Builders Association. AHA engages in strategic partnerships with community groups, from local arts collectives to youth services agencies to meet our residents’ needs. All of our residents earn less than half of the area median income, and benefit from such services as case management, health classes, social activities, and financial literacy training.
