Dear Berkley Schools Community, It is with a heavy heart that I write to you. We received news that recently retired band teacher Jeff Blazis-Voight has passed away. Jeff suffered a massive stroke Monday night and passed away after donating his organs through Gift of Life. His wife, Patty, and his extended family, are in our hearts and prayers as they experience this difficult time. Jeff retired in December 2016 after 22 years as a band educator in the Berkley Schools. He began as the high school band director in 1994 and ended his career as the AMS and 5th grade band teacher at our elementary schools. Mr. Voight will be deeply missed, but the music lessons and life lessons he taught will live on in all his students and in those who knew him. Please join me in remembering Jeff for his love for children and music, for developing outstanding musicians and his outstanding career in the Berkley Schools. If your child has any questions or concerns, or needs support after hearing this news, our counselors and social workers are available at all schools to assist. Sincerely, Dennis McDavid Superintendent Berkley School District
