Who would have imagined in 1945 when Father Bob Mize, a young Episcopal priest, opened Saint Francis' first home for boys in Ellsworth, Kansas, that our ministry would grow to daily serve thousands of children, youth, and families in crisis? Even now, we provide these services with the same spiritual underpinnings that Father Bob initiated with Therapy in Christ. What a wonderful legacy he left to Saint Francis and to all who have been touched through his life and ministry.
These days, the environment of treating at-risk youth and families has dramatically changed. Even now, in the midst of the realities of dealing with justice systems and legislatures, the inspiration found in the Prayer of St. Francis that begins, "Lord make us instruments of your peace", is the foundation and guiding light of the vision and pioneering spirit Father Bob began.
Today, Saint Francis remains a donor-supported child welfare ministry embracing the Episcopal tradition of service.
