Madison Park Cooperative Pre-School
The environment at Madison Park Cooperative Preschool (MPCP) is supportive in providing a fun first experience in a school setting where children gain confidence as they begin to master social and academic readiness skills. In addition, parents and caregivers gain useful information and guidance techniques with the support of Parent Educators.

A SCHOOL WITH STRONG ROOTS
MPCP began in 1970 as a small baby–sitting cooperative. Recognizing the need for current parenting information and early childhood education, MPCP became one of several parent-operated preschools affiliated with the Parent Education Program at Seattle Central Community College.

THE CLASS
The teachers, with input from the parents and the parent educator, develop the curriculum, which may vary by class according to the needs of the children and the perceptions of the teachers and parents. Class sessions differ by age group but are generally structured with periods of choice time, circle time, snack and gross motor play.

THE INVOLVEMENT OF PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS
MPCP is managed by a parent Board of Directors, each family attending the co–op serves on one committee, and parents assist teachers in each class.
Being part of a cooperative preschool offers parents the opportunity to watch their child grow in his or her first contact with a group outside of the family. It offers parents direct involvement with the teachers and children who define this new step in the child's life.

Perhaps the most lasting effect of joining the co–op is the sense of community support that develops among the parents.
