Yukon River Drainage Fisheries Association

5
The Yukon River Drainage Fisheries Association (YRDFA) was formed in December of 1990 when fishing leaders from the Alaskan portion of the Yukon River and its main tributaries gathered in the village of Galena to address the causes of that summer’s disastrous salmon returns: offshore interception, habitat loss, and stifling federal and state regulations. Over time, YRDFA has matured into an organization through which fishers throughout the Yukon River work to resolve their conflicts by sharing information and perspectives at decision-making forums. During its’ history, YRDFA has developed unique communications, linking fishers and fishery managers, addressing important policy issues, carrying out research and offering education and assistance to fishing villages in order to sustain the fishing way of life along the Yukon River. Our sixteen board members and fourteen alternates represent all of the Yukon fishing districts and ensure a river wide perspective.
