PennDOT provides a safe intermodal transportation system that attracts businesses and residents and stimulates Pennsylvania’s economy. PennDOT is responsible for planning, building, and maintaining Pennsylvania’s network of state highways, including the interstate highway system. PennDOT also provides extensive driver’s license and motor vehicle services; licenses airports; handles highway, aviation, rail freight, and transit grants statewide; and operates certain regulatory programs among other duties. PennDOT is comprised of its central office, eleven engineering districts and maintenance offices in every county and is led by Secretary of Transportation Leslie S. Richards.
