The Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma (HPRT) has pioneered the care of traumatized persons worldwide. Over 35 years, HPRT has treated over 15,000 culturally diverse patients, many who have been tortured, built integrated holistic primary health care systems in Cambodia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, and Peru, and helped write Liberia’s new national mental health policy. Through many classic research studies, HPRT has assisted in establishing a new field in medicine focusing on health, mental health, and human rights.
