It's too nice of a day to stay inside. I think we should all call in sick or take a personal day and enjoy the weather!

In honor of our late father and founder of Ax in Hand Guitars, Larry Henrikson, we had this piece made and put it up in our store. It's nice to be able to see him every day once again and share his story with the world. "Around 1964, previously owned electric guitars manufactured in the 1950's underwent a transformation from "used" to "vintage" with an associated increase in interest and an elevation in prices. This vintage instrument movement was realized through the use of certain favored guitars by guitarists like Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Paul Butterfield, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Jimmy Page, George Harrison, Billy Gibbons, and Paul Kossoff. During this time, Larry Henrikson was buying and selling such instruments in relationship his guitar school customers in downtown DeKalb, Il. He realized there was a future in collecting and selling these special instruments and in 1969, he oriented the "Ax-In-Hand" guitar shop (Ax being the slang term for guitar). In over thirty years he developed one of the finest collections of acoustic and electric vintage guitars by makers like Gibson, Fender, Guild, Epiphone, Rickenbacker, and Gretch. Henrikson became the first, and was the best known and respected of the vintage electric guitar experts and dealers in the world. During the 1980's he toured this marvelous collection internationally as the "Ax in Hand Traveling Guitar Show". Pictured above, Larry is holding what he referred to as the "holy grail", a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Standard electric guitar. 57' was the debut year for the Seth Lover designed "PAF" (Patent Applied For) Humbucking Pickups originally designed in 1955. The guitar was purchased at a flea market in Indiana and was in mint condition with the original case and Gibson promotional tags. It is the only guitar of this type known with a Tobacco Sunburst single color mahogany top. The other guitar, a 1960 Les Paul Standard Sunburst is one of the type that started the vintage movement. Guitars of this type are known to sell for $150,000 and up."
