In 2017, over 8,700 children and families across Maine, New Hampshire and beyond were served through its core programs: Ronald McDonald House in Bangor, Ronald McDonald House in Portland, Ronald McDonald Family Room, and RMHC Grants Program.
Children recover faster when families are able to stay together. At the Ronald McDonald Houses in Bangor and Portland, families find a welcoming smile from a friendly volunteer, a home-cooked meal to enjoy after a long day at the hospital, a good night’s sleep in a caring environment and receive the support from other families in similar situations. Last year, 7,595 nights were provided to 652 families with 12 nights as the average length of stay and the longest stay 281 nights. RMHC Maine's operating costs for one night, per guest room, is $75. To support our ongoing programs, we encourage, but do not require, families to contribute $10 per night or whatever amount they are able, in order to continue House services for future guests. Over 70% of those families were unable to contribute towards their stay. No family is turned away due to inability to pay, ever.
