In 1993, St Michael's Church in Waynesboro purchased the former home of James and Ellen Wimberly for future growth and development. One of the visions for the house was to establish a "community center" where the diverse needs of Burke County's residents could be4 met through counseling and support Groups. The vision became a reality in 1995, and services have continued to expand. Wimberly House Ministries, Inc. is operated as a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt outreach ministry supported collectivity area churches, businesses, and individuals with a common goal - meeting the needs of others. A variety of programs and activities is offered for all ages.
Wimberly House is totally supported by donations and private grants. For many years, a group of citizens, Friends of Wimberly House, has organized and annual fundraiser to help underwrite ministry expenses. The event generates approximately $30,000 and is the primary source of income.
