Founded in 1986, the Literacy Center of West Michigan is committed to bringing about a just and vibrant West Michigan through the power of literacy. This mission statement reflects our intent to improve the current levels of low literacy in our community, driving West Michigan towards having one of the highest literacy rates in the nation.
The Literacy Center works with adults, both native speakers of English and English language learners, who read below a 9th grade level and want to strengthen their literacy. We are at the forefront of adult literacy instruction. Our programs meet learners where they are, offering one-on-one tutoring, employment-based classes, and family literacy opportunities, all at no cost to the learners.
