The Preucil School of Music is a non-profit, member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education, serving 750 students with a 35-member faculty. Founded in 1975, the Preucil School evolved from a Suzuki violin program established in 1963 by Doris Preucil. Suzuki instruction is offered in strings, piano, voice, harp and flute. Additional programs include Suzuki pedagogy, theory, chamber music, orchestras, a Certificate Program for high school students, Music Together® and a 5-day preschool program.
The School was founded in an Iowa City landmark, the historic Czechoslovakian Hall, built in 1900. An additional facility was built in 2002. This facility, the Preucil School of Music North Campus and Morris Early Childhood Education Center, houses the 5-day preschool program, private studio space and large rehearsal rooms.
