Congrats to Sladjana Pokrajac, ED, for receiving the Bridgeport Hospital Quality Award! https://t.co/cWJe0BtEpp

Congratulations to Sladjana Pokrajac, Emergency Department, for receiving the Bridgeport Hospital Quality Award! Her story, from a patient: “After almost a decade of trying unsuccessfully to have a family of our own, on Jan. 17, 2016, my husband and I finally welcomed our baby boy to the world at Bridgeport Hospital. After my son’s birth, the doctors told us that we would have a one-in-a million shot of being able to conceive naturally, but miraculously as our son turned five months, we were we were pregnant again. Our excitement turned to panic six weeks later when I found myself bleeding uncontrollably and was rushed to the ER. I arrived before my husband and I met Sladjana. She gave me hugs as we waited for the doctors to tell me if a blood test confirmed that our baby okay. Our miracle was fading. When the doctor came in and told me I lost the baby, I sobbed uncontrollably. Sladjana wrapped her arms around me and whispered that it would be okay. She never left my side, stayed with me until my husband arrived, let me cry and scream, and let me take as long as I needed to absorb the horrible news. She said everything right, she did everything right and she embodied everything a nurse should be. She hugged me as we left the ER and promised me this would not be the end. To our amazement, in December 2016 we found out we were pregnant with twins! But about a month later, a few days after my son turned one, I was again rushed to the ER. Terrified, I waited in tears when a familiar face appeared next to me. It was Sladjana and she went out of her way to be there for me again. This time, the ultrasound revealed that our babies were fine, two strong heartbeats and one relieved mama. We were so blessed to have a nurse of Sladjana’s caliber available to us. She should be honored because she embodies every virtue a nurse could hope to have. She is more than a nurse – she is a friend.” To thank a caregiver, visit http://ow.ly/4ncAl4
