Saline County, Kansas, External Social Media Policy
Saline County’s practice of communicating on external social media channels is provided as a public service. For the purposes of this policy, social media means any facility for online publication and commentary, including without limitation social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Saline County may update this policy at any time without notice. Any modification is effective at the time it is posted, unless stated otherwise. Use of a Saline County social media site after the policy is modified signifies acceptance of the modification.
Saline County does not guarantee that comments posted after business hours will be viewed before the next business day. Communications made on a Saline County social media site shall in no way constitute a legal communication or notice. Users should call the appropriate county department to report an emergency, make an open records request, etc.
Saline County does not assume liability for inaccuracies and disclaims liability for ads, videos, promoted content or comments accessible from any external web page. The responsibility of external content or comments rests with the organizations or individuals providing them. Any inclusion of external content or comments on the Saline County’s external social media accounts (and affiliated department or program accounts) does not imply endorsement by Saline County.
Saline County’s social media accounts are subject to the Kansas Open Records Act. Users posting to a Saline County social media site give the County the express right to reproduce, use, and distribute the content of their post.
Social media commenting notice
We encourage public engagement via comments, concerns, and questions regarding any of the topics on the Saline County’s social media accounts. Please note that this is a moderated online discussion site and not a public forum. While we respect that our residents will have differing opinions on any given topic, posts will be removed at the sole discretion of the County if they:
• Contain nudity/pornography, adult and/or vulgar or hate language, tobacco, alcohol or similar information
• Personal attacks of any kind
• Activities restricted to adults
• Hostility or violence
• Comments that target or disparage any ethnic, racial or religious groups
• Spam or links to other sites
• Sexual, obscene, indecent, or explicit messages, sexual overtone or innuendo
• Products or services with sexual overtones such as massage parlors, escort services, or establishments featuring for show or sale X-rated or pornographic movies, materials or performances
• False, misleading or deceptive sponsorships/advertisements
• Language or information that is obscene, foul, vulgar, scurrilous or scatological
• Information harmful to children or is of a nature to frighten children, either emotionally or physically
• Cruelty to animals
• Online casino gaming, gambling or betting
• Information affiliated with or promoting political campaigns or candidates
• Solicitations for donations, except for official County-sponsored activities
• Promotion or endorsements of specific brand name products or services for advertising or marketing purposes
• Content that is clearly off topic
• Advocacy of illegal activity
• Information that may compromise the safety, security or proceedings of public systems or any criminal or civil investigations
All links posted as comments on Saline County posts will be reviewed and may be deleted at any time.
Saline County reserves the right to block comments from site users who violate the above rules. You must also comply with all terms of use established by the service providers themselves.

Repeated violations of the Saline County comment policy may cause the author to be blocked from the Saline County social media accounts.
We understand that social media is a 24/7 medium; however, our moderation capabilities are not. We may not see every inappropriate comment right away, and we are trusting in the maturity of our community to ignore personal attacks and negative speech or respond politely.
