Would You Like To Join NCSSAR?

Let us know about your desire to become a member of NCSSAR by attending one of our monthly meetings. The team meets the 1st Monday of each month in the Supervisors Chambers on the 1st floor of the Eric Rood Administrative Center in Nevada City, beginning at 6:30 PM. In the Truckee area, the team meets quarterly the 2nd Thursday beginning in January on the 2nd floor of the Court House in Truckee beginning at 6:30 PM.

There you will meet team members, be able to ask questions and see if you have the interest and commitment to become a member.
Applications for membership can be obtained at the monthly meetings or by contacting the SAR Coordinator at the Sheriff’s office at 530-265-1321


To Qualify:
Persons applying for membership in NCSSAR must be in reasonably good health, must possess a valid California Drivers License, and must be at least 18 years of age. A special category exists for youth between the ages of 14 and 18.

Requirements and expectations from the Sheriff include participation in ongoing training and search activities. Yearly minimums have been established for participation. Upon a complete Background investigation and approval by the Board, an applicant becomes a Trail Ready member.

Basic training to become a Mission Ready member consists of approximately 60 hours of training. This training includes Introduction to NCSSAR, Man Tracking, Map & Compass, GPS, Rough Terrain, knots, radio communication, basic SEMS/ICS, Clue Awareness and search tactics, physical fitness, interview skills, and crime scene requirements. In addition, the Trail Ready members must be able to successfully demonstrate the taught skills to an evaluator to become Mission Ready. In addition, these skills must be recertified on a bi- annual basis. Specific additional winter search & survival skills are taught during the winter months.
