Texas State Independent Living Council shared Texas Tribune's post.
In response to the findings of a federal investigation into the Texas Education Agency, Chairman Mack Marsh released the following statement. "Today, the U.S. Department of Education confirmed what disability advocates have known all along, the Texas Education Agency's (TEA) use of a cap on special education services resulted in the failure to identify, locate, and evaluate thousands of children with disabilities to ensure they received an appropriate education. We call on the state to work with the disability community to rectify those services which were wrongly denied and work to ensure this never can happen again."
Breaking: A federal investigation found that the Texas Education Agency effectively capped the statewide percentage of students who could receive special education services, thus violating federal law.
A U.S. Department of Education investigation concluded Thursday that Texas violated federal law by failing to ensure students with disabilities were properly evaluated and provided with an adequate public education.
