Who is a doubter? One who ask questions. We don’t have all the answers. We respect diversity. We dialogue about differences. We agree to disagree. Unity is not uniformity. We do not all think alike. We believe the opposite of faith is certainty. We seek to learn with and from others on the journey. We embrace the unknown. In a time when some would neatly package Christianity in popular doctrine and dogma, we are pleased to proclaim that we dance with our doubts.

Who is a dreamer? One who hopes for a better world. We long for God’s kingdom of love with peace and justice. We believe good triumphs. We believe in the dignity of all. We call forth the best in another. We seek to live by forgiveness and grace. Our vision is faith as a verb, a way of living and being and doing. In a time when competition drives consumerism even in matters of faith, we believe in community. We believe a commitment to God can bind us together for the common good. We strive to be a community that agrees to disagree, resolves to love, and unites to serve.

Who is a disciple? One who learns and follows and becomes like the teacher. A disciple of Jesus Christ is becoming more like him. This is a life long process of maturing for the follower. This is how the world is changed.

What does a disciple do? According to John Wesley, founder of the Methodist movement, a disciple lives by Three Simple Rules:

Do good.
Avoid harm.
Love God.

How does one become a disciple? Here at Edinboro UMC, we practice:

Radical Hospitality (God welcomes us and we welcome Jesus Christ and those He sends into our lives.)

Inspiring Worship (We gather to experience the presence of God together. Our lives are lived in praise.)

Intentional Faith Formation (Individually and together we pray, study, and grow to become more like Christ.)

Risk-taking Service and Mission (Alone and with others, we are working to change the world with love.)

Extravagant Generosity (God gave Jesus. We receive by giving. We are blessed to be a blessing.)

Why the word community?

We are more than a collection of individuals with unique faith journeys. We are learning to live in relationship with each other. Together we believe we are more than the mere sum of the individual parts. What holds us together is our common focus on Jesus Christ. With God at the center of who we are and what we do, we become whole. We celebrate the wonderful variations of faith expression found here. We have a common purpose and a shared method of living in the presence of the Holy.
