Organized in 1994, the MDDP has strived to improve downtown Morris on many levels. Under the direction of a study conducted in 1995 by the consulting firm of Hyett/Palma, the organization identified the areas that needed to be worked on and formed the following committees to address these concerns; Physical Improvements and Parking, Marketing and Events, Historical Preservation and an Executive Committee which oversees the long term planning for the organization. Since 1995, the MDDP has been integral in the following improvements: street scape, physical improvements to buildings, beautification projects and way finding signs for the downtown district. Additionally, the MDDP has implemented several events, including The Liberty Arts Festival and the Liberty 5K Run/Walk. In 2004, Home for the Holidays was also adopted by the MDDP
