Our Employment & Training Department attended the
"K.N.W. Transition: Pathways To Success" Program Event, Feb. 22, 2017.
The event was focused on students with disabilities from Kamaile Academy – Public Charter School, Nanakuli High & Intermediate School, and Waianae High School. Many of the parents have children who suffer from epileptic seizures or dyslexia which are ongoing challenges for these children and their families. Some of the parents remembered working during the summer for ALU LIKE.
There were about 16 vendors who participated in this event such as Access to Independence, Best Buddies, Children’s Community Council –Waianae, Developmental Disabilities Division, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Goodwill, Easter Seals, and many more. It was very inspiring to have Andria Tupola (State House District Representative for Nanakuli) and a music student of hers who is legally blind speak of his perseverance in overcoming the challenges to become a English teacher. Together they sang a duet that was so heart felt. It was a wonderful evening sharing resources with our community.
