Roper Music has been serving the Western Slope for over 50 years. The story of the store starts back in 1947 when Gilbert Roper and his brother Judge started Roper Brothers Music and Electronics in Montrose, Colorado.
A decade after opening their store in Montrose, Gil Roper decided to open a store in Grand Junction. Mr. Roper bought the Clark and Steen Music Store in March of 1956, and this location would become home to Roper Music. After buying the store, Mr. Roper hired Joe Grantham as a sales representative, who developed an excellent rapport with the local band directors, eventually he became President of Roper Music.
In 1984, John Handley joined Roper Music as a repairman. When Joe's health began to deteriorate, John began filling the position of sales representative, and in 1993 he took over the store, following Mr. Roper's retirement. Today, the store continues to support music education on the Western Slope with high quality instruments, a wide selection of sheet music, a recently renovated ballroom for concerts and recitals, and a full-time band repair shop.
The success of Roper Music can be explained by the innovative business practices of Gilbert Roper. He combined honesty, consistency and quality service to ensure his customers' satisfaction. It is Roper Music's mission to support music education at all levels while giving each and every customer the best service. This goal has been and will always remain at the heart of Roper Music.
