Advent Lutheran Church celebrating graduation.
Congratulations Marty Wagner on your graduation today from seminary. 🙌 It's been a blessing to all of us to witness your journey.

Dear Advent Disciples, Here's some information regarding important happenings in the life of Advent: REX RACHEL MEMORIAL SERVICE - We will celebrate the life of Rex Rachel, former Dir. of Music at Advent and husband of current Music Master Joanna Corbett on Sunday, May 28th at 4:00 p.m. at Advent with food and fellowship to follow. Please keep Joanna and family in your prayers and join us for this special celebration. CIA (6th-8th Graders) - LOCK-IN at the church tomorrow, Saturday, May 20th beginning at 8:00 p.m. VBS - Vacation Bible School is coming soon and we want all Advent disciples to have the opportunity to help with this important outreach to the community. There are 4 things you can do now to help: 1. SPONSOR-A-CHILD with a financial donation in honor/memory of someone. Forms to assist with this will be included in the bulletins for the next few weeks. 2. VOLUNTEER - See Jessie Molendyk at the VBS table in the Fellowship Hall and she will help you see where your time and talents can best be used. 3. INVITE - Special VBS fliers with all the necessary information will be available at church the next few Sundays. Please take these with you and share with neighbors, family and friends. 4. PRAY for our VBS and our efforts to provide our community with the love of Jesus. HANDY-PEOPLE NEEDED - Property Board looking for volunteers to assist with sprinkler repairs (commercial type) and pew repairs. GIFTS APPRECIATED – The Pastor’s Discretionary Fund is a designated account that Pastor Jerry uses to assist those in need of financial assistance. Most of the funds for this account come from special gifts from disciples and friends of the congregation. The current balance is very low. If this is a ministry that touches your heart and you would like to help, please make a designated gift (over and above regular giving) to the “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.” SPECIAL APPEAL – To date we have received over 67% of our $250,000 goal! Please continue to lift up our appeal in your prayers. This appeal will fund the repair/fix of our roof/cross/window leak problems, lighting improvements, additional technology, and a new staff position focusing on children, youth, and young adult ministries. See you in church, Pastor Jerry

The property board is looking for volunteers for projects this summer: * Need a volunteer(s) to work on Advent’s lawn commercial type sprinklers this summer. * Need a volunteer(s) to repair pews. This will involve replacing wood under the seat cushion. If you are interested in helping out with any of the above projects, please contact someone on the property board, the church office, show up at the next work day (2nd Saturday of the month), or comment below and we'll get you connected :) Not handy, but know someone who is? Please share this information with them.

Epic Youth - Don't forget about bible study tonight at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall. All high school youth are welcome!

Today is sometimes called "Good Shepherd Sunday." Jesus is called the "gate" of the sheep in today's gospel. The risen Christ opens the way to abundant life. He anoints our heads with oil and guides us beside the still waters of our baptism. Each Sunday he spreads a feast before us in the midst of the world's violence and war. We go forth to be signs of the resurrection and extend God's tender care to all creation.
