TWINING — With enrollment continuing to decline and a deficit anticipated at the end of the 2017-18 school year, the Arenac Eastern school board voted to explore contracting the district’s students out to another district during the board’s Feb. 22 meeting.

We wanted to remind community members that the Arenac Eastern school board is meeting tonight in the school library at 6:30 p.m. Superintendent Darren Kroczaleski told the Independent a few weeks ago the district's future and options going forward would be topics of discussion at the meeting. - Tim

United States Sen. Gary Peters will be visiting Magline in Standish today around 1:30 p.m., and afterward is scheduled to sit down with us at the Independent to discuss various issues, including attempts to make companies that outsource jobs more accountable and transparent, manufacturing, veterans bills, college affordability and rural broadband coverage. Coverage of Sen. Peters' visit to Magline and the interview will be featured in the March 1 edition of the Arenac County Independent.
