In 1980, the State Legislature created the Rural Preservation Program to provide funding to non-profits addressing the housing needs of rural New York State. Putnam County Housing Corporation (PCHC) was incorporated in 1982 as a non-profit Rural Preservation Company (RPC). Over the last 30 years, PCHC has worked to address the diverse housing needs of Putnam residents including constructing 120 units of senior housing, 11 units of emergency and permanent housing and nearly $1 million in home improvements for county homeowners. As a HUD-certified Housing Counseling Agency, PCHC is assisting Putnam's homeowners at-risk or in foreclosure with funding from New York State Attorney General's Home Ownership Protection Program. PCHC is funded by New York State Housing and Community Renewal and grants from local, county, state, federal and private entities
