American Chinese School

Rowland Unified is proud of its four National Blue Ribbon Schools, 4 IB World Schools, 16 California Distinguished School Awards and numerous state and national award-winning programs. Rowland is one of the few Districts to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma at both Nogales High School and Rowland High School. There are also two IB World School Schools (Primary Years Program) at Oswalt Academy (K-8) and Ybarra Academy of the Arts and Technology (K-8).

RUSD is proud to be the only public School District in the State to have the Apple Laptop Learning program in K- 12 schools. The innovative program is now at four of its schools: Oswalt Academy – An Apple Distinguished School (2010 & 2011); Ybarra Academy of the Arts and Technology, Giano Intermediate and Nogales High School.

Rowland High School was named "One of America's Best High Schools" by Newsweek Magazine (2011, 2010 & 2009). Both high schools also offer the pioneering Career Certification Program, where students can study one of six career pathways: Arts & Communications, Business, Family & Consumer Sciences, Health & Medical Services, Public & Human Services, and Technology.

Traditional Bilingual & Two-Way Language Immersion Programs begin in Kindergarten. Students have opportunities to learn Mandarin, Korean, Spanish and Tagalog at selected sites. Students can graduate with a Bilingual Competency Award in their heritage language (Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog).

RUSD has a strong commitment to the arts and is one of the few Districts to offer instrumental music in all of its elementary, middle and high schools. The Elementary Instrumental Program begins with strings in 4th grade and band in 5th grade. 2010 marked the 30th anniversary of the Elementary Instrumental program. Both high school Visual & Performing Arts programs win state and national awards. Each summer the District offers the unique Summer Arts Academy and Summer Theater programs.
