ABOUT:
The Hagan Ace Hardware story began with two people, and has evolved into a fourth generation business. Following is a little history of the stores, the founders, Don and Ann Hagan were born and raised in Callahan. In 1950, Don began working part-time at Brandies Hardware store, owned by Cliff and Lucille Brandies (Ann's parents), in Callahan. During this time, he met Ann Brandies and began a relationship that was to last a lifetime. In August 1955, he married Ann and began working full time at Brandies Hardware store. Brandies Hardware and its employees did just about anything their customers needed. They did plumbing and electrical installations; sold and serviced appliances, Evinrude outboard engines and water pumps; and painted houses. Don and Ann realized they loved the hardware business. Waiting on customers and helping solve their problems was, and still is, very gratifying. They learned the name of every customer, to make them feel welcome. In 1962, the Hagan's branched out on their own and purchased a small hardware store in Hilliard, FL. The store was a mere 1050 sq. ft. In 1964, they joined Ace Hardware. In 1972, the Hagan's built a new store in Hilliard (4,800 sq. ft.), across the street from the original store. New merchandise was added to better serve the community. The business continued to grow and eventually seven stores branching out from Hilliard, Macclenny, Mandarin, Orange Park, Green Cove Springs, St. Augustine, Anastasia, and Palatka were serving their local communities. The stores range in size from 9,000 sq. ft. to 40,000 sq. ft. and carry a wide range of hardware products, paint, tools, electrical, plumbing, lawn and garden, plants, BBQ, outdoor furniture, pool supplies, lumber, and clothing. Each store is unique and presents a merchandise selection suited for the community.

The Hagan's son, Bill, a 1975 graduate of West Nassau, began working for his dad early on. He spent many hours at his grandfather's Brandies store growing up right next door to the booming business. By 20 years of age, Bill was managing his own store. He not only has managed several stores, but also is a family man. He and his wife Debbie have two children, Jacob (Rhonda) and Leah (Garrick), and three grandchildren. They are very active in their church community. In 1990, his father Don Hagan officially retired. Since that time, he has become the owner. Now, Bill's son, Jacob, has become a big part of the company, assisting his dad in many different ways. Currently, Jacob is the Store Manager at the Green Cove Springs location. What an amazing legacy Mr. Cliff and Mrs. Lucille began! It now has truly become a fourth generation business: Cliff Brandies; Ann and Don Hagan; Bill Hagan; and now, Jacob Hagan.
