Community Consolidated School District 146 is located in a diverse, middle-class suburban area, 25 miles southwest of Chicago. The District encompasses 10 square miles, and serves parts of Tinley Park, Oak Forest and Orland Park with easy access to the I-57, I-80 and I-294 expressways. CCSD #146 is a Pre K-8 elementary school district with an enrollment of approximately 2400 students. Consisting of four elementary schools and one middle school, the district offers a full array of special services designed to meet the individual needs of each child. Special Needs students are included to the fullest extent possible in mainstream classrooms. Annual screenings for preschool and kindergarten, as well as activities program for expectant mothers and families with children from birth to age five (5), are offered to those residing in the district. The District also has a Gifted Students Program with a facilitator at each school to identify and promote students.
Central Middle School: A Grade 6-8 middle school with an enrollment of about 800 students. The building was built in 2001 and it serves as the feeder school for all elementary buildings.
Fulton School: Fulton School located in Tinley Park was one of the first schools in District 146. In June 2008 Fulton was torn down to make way for a new Pre K-5 school for approximately 550 students. Fulton reopened in August 2009.
Fierke Education Center: Fierke Education Center, the only district school in Oak Forest, is a Pre K-5 school with an enrollment of approximately 330, originally built in the open classroom format popular in the 70s. In 2003 it underwent a major renovation and is now a traditional classroom school.
Kruse Education Center: Kruse Education Center is the sister school to Fierke. It is a Pre K-5 school with an enrollment of approximately 350 and the only district school in Orland Park. It was built in 1972 and was renovated in 2002.
Memorial School: Memorial School was built in 1961. It is a Pre K-5 school with an enrollment of approximately 330 students and was the focus of renovations in 2010. Due to a construction strike, completion of the renovations by August 2010 were impossible so Memorial school students and staff relocated to Sandidge School for the 2010-2011 school year, and then returned to Memorial for the opening of the 2011-2012 school year.
Sandidge School: Sandidge school closed its doors in 2009 with the opening of the newly constructed Fulton School. In 2010-2011 it reopened to temporarily house the staff and students of Memorial School during its renovation period.
