Farm to City is a Philadelphia-based business whose goal is to unite communities, families, and farmers year-round through good locally grown food. Our slogan is Real Farmers, Real Food. We envision a city connected to its region through its farmers and their crops, a city rich with healthful and flavorful food choices - at outdoor markets, grocery stores, restaurants and schools and through Community-supported Agriculture and buying clubs.
Farm to City sees a region where the sustainable family farm is economically successful and a force to preserve our vanishing countryside. Founded by Bob Pierson in 2000, Farm to City has a staff of three full time employees, two part time employees and seasonal market managers.

Since 2001, Farm to City plans and operates farmers’ markets and the Winter Harvest Buying Club, and provides marketing and bookkeeping services to CSA farms and other local food initiatives that use Farm to City’s website.

In 2011, Farm to City and the Common Market created and launched Delaware Valley Farm Share, an alternate week CSA-like program supplied with food from many local farms.

From 2001 through 2012, Farm to City programs resulted in $ million in sales by small farms and local food businesses. Our program sales hit of $ million in 2011 and will reach nearly $3 million in 2012.

Farmers’ Markets. Farm to City opened its first market in 2001 and currently plans and operates 17 markets in Philadelphia, Delaware and Montgomery Counties. Philadelphia’s largest outdoor market is Farm to City’s Rittenhouse Farmers’ Market.

Buying Club. Through the Winter Harvest buying club, customers order locally produced food from November through April. The food is delivered weekly to 19 locations in the Philadelphia area. Winter Harvest is Philadelphia’s largest and longest-running buying club, offering its members over 575 products from 45 farmers and local food producers.

CSA Support. Farm to City has helped several dozen farms start their CSA programs over the past 12 years by marketing the programs, recruiting several thousand CSA member, and providing bookkeeping and communications services.

Farm Share. The Delaware Valley Farm Share offers locally-produced food to office, community organizations and places of worship. Food arrives every other week, year-round, including fruit, vegetables, eggs, and value-added foods. Farm Share also offers an optional dairy share. The Summer Share runs May – October; Winter Share runs November – April. In our pilot year, 2011, we started with five sites and over 100 members and now have 18 sites with 650 members.
Farm to City is a member of PASA and has representation on DVRPC’s Food Stakeholder Committee and Philadelphia’s Food Policy Council. Farm to City is a founding member of Sustainable Business Network and the Common Market.
