Dr. Jonathan Yunis is a recognized expert in hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction, and has dedicated his career to delivering unsurpassed surgical results. As a result of this commitment, patients come from all over the world for an accurate diagnosis and customized treatment that’s based on the individual.
Dr. Yunis spent the early part of his career as a Vascular Surgeon where he specialized in surgical repair of aortic aneurysms, carotid endarterectomy, and lower extremity revascularization. Like many other surgeons who have gone on to specialize in other surgical fields, Dr. Yunis was fascinated and challenged by the multidimensional anatomy of the inguinal region and abdominal wall. furthered his education in hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction through frequent visits to the operating room of hernia specialists all over the world.
A New York native, Dr. Yunis received his bachelor degree from Vassar College, and medical degree from State University of New York at Syracuse Medical School. He completed his surgical internship and residency at State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1990. He went on to complete a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at SUNY Stony Brook in 1992.
Today, Center for Hernia Repair is acclaimed as one of the world’s premier hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction care facilities. Dr. Yunis is an active member of the American Hernia Society and The Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons. He is Fellow of American College of Surgeons and a past Chief of Surgery at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
