Welcome to the City of Eaton Fire and EMS Division. We proudly serve the City of Eaton and the Townships of Washington, and Jackson. The Eaton Fire and EMS Division serves the City of Eaton, population 8,300 (2010 Census), and two neighboring townships, population estimated at 4,000. Eaton is geographically located in the center of Preble County, Ohio, 35 miles west of Dayton, Ohio and 18 miles southeast of Richmond, Indiana and six south of Interstate 70.
Eaton is the county seat of Preble County and is the center of activity associated with agriculture and manufacturing. Eaton is home to several manufacturing companies and is an intersection for several commercial truck routes and an active rail line. Eaton was founded in 1806 as a village. the Eaton Independent Fire Engine and Hose Company was organized in 1835; the Eaton Emergency Squad was formed in 1972.
City Council consolidated the management and operation of the Fire and EMS Divisions on September 11, 2006. Organizational structure consists of a Fire/EMS Chief, three shift captains, an EMS lieutenant, four volunteer lieutenants, and many part-time and volunteer personnel. In 2011 we had 3039 requests for service; 2333 were medical emergencies; 83 vehicle accidents, 594 rescue / ems first response calls, 52 fire responses, and 200 alarm / service calls. EMS transports
to 11 different hospitals, with 54% of our patients being transported to Reid Hospital, Richmond IN, 18 miles away or Dayton, OH, 25 miles away. In 2011, we had 118 general alarms using volunteers and 805 calls handled by on duty crews.
