AREA TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY OF NORTH CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA

The Area Transportation Authority of North Central Pennsylvania (ATA) was chartered in 1976 under the authority of Pennsylvania Act 164 of 1945, the Municipality Authorities Act (P. L. 382, May 2, 1945, as amended), by the governing bodies of six counties of the north central Pennsylvania region. The counties were Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter. All currently participate in ATA.

These six counties, out of 67 in Pennsylvania, in 2000, encompass 234,416 residents,
5,092 square miles and 156

ATA is by far the largest rural public, regional, multi-county, transportation service provider in Pennsylvania.

Although ATA is clearly unique, it shares many issues and concerns with other rural systems.
