Knicker Knob Stable

Knicker Knob Stable is located in Loomis, within riding distance to the Folsom Lake trails. The stable is conveniently located near Horseshoe Bar Road and Auburn Folsom Road in Loomis. We offer boarding, rehabilitation services, training and lessons from our knowledgeable and helpful staff. We pride ourselves on providing a safe environment where you and your horse can reach your potential. We have three riding instructors and two trainers which allow us to provide lessons seven days a week for people of all ages and experience levels.
Knicker Knob has long been known in the Gold Country equestrian community for producing safe and knowledgeable horsemen. With its rustic charm and down to earth attitude you are sure to find what you are looking for when looking for your next stable.
We have a lesson program suited for everyone! Private, semi private, and group lessons available. Children will enjoy learning the basics and playing games while they improve their skills. Children must be at least 8 years old to participate in our group lesson program. Adults can learn to ride or get a refresher in our beginning and advanced programs. All lessons include grooming and saddling the horses and safety instruction. Individuals can focus on trail riding, English, Western, Dressage principals, equitation and more. We offer lessons in the arena and on the trail.
We believe that in order to have a successful endurance horse with a long, competitive career you must first have a well-balanced and responsive horse. An endurance horse does not just “go down the trail." All of our horses are cross trained with dressage basics and cavaletti/ground pole exercises to develop balance and willingness. Conditioning is done on a variety of terrain including sand, rocks, hills, dirt roads and single track trails. Horses in training are exposed to bicycles, hikers, ATVs, water crossings and road riding. All horses are taught correct trot outs and standing quietly for veterinarian examinations.
We also understand that an endurance horse is nothing without excellent nutrition and farrier care. At Knicker Knob Stable we pride ourselves on having fit, healthy horses that look like they could step foot into the show ring at any time. We are located in the heart of endurance country; just 10 minutes from the Tevis Cup finish line. Riders and horses of all experience levels are welcome, whether your goal is Limited Distance or 100 mile competition. Coaching is also available to trailer-ins and boarded horses on organized conditioning rides and mounted lessons in the arena. We can help you to develop a conditioning plan and diet to best complement your goals. Coaching during a ride is also available behind our seasoned endurance horses. They have the ability to calm anxious, green horses allowing you to have a positive experience.
