The current sanctuary was built in 1990 and was originally called the Verde Valley Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Robert and Nancy Allen were called in 1992.

The Mingus Baptist Church’s first service was held in 1986, meeting in the historic Clemenceau School in Cottonwood.
They moved into a permanent building on Western Drive in 1987, purchasing the buildings in 1992.

Pastor Steve and Kate Baker were called in 1997.

With the inspiration of the two congregations and their pastors, they felt God’s leading to serve together. This was a two-year process which included much prayer and planning.

The basic doctrines of the churches were very similar, and members felt that they could work well together to more effectively further the Kingdom of Christ. This merger went smoothly and the two congregations soon truly became One in Christ. Current Pastor Paul Bryant and his wife Katie Bryant were called to the church in 2007.

On May 7, 2017, the church voted to change its name to Hillside Community Church. This name change was made to let people know that we are a fellowship of believers in the community of Cottonwood, AZ who welcome everyone to worship with us.
