The City of Monmouth was founded in 1856 and has been providing quality public services for more than 150 years. Monmouth is a city of 9,855 (Dec. 2017) residents and has its own electric distribution system. The city is located 20 minutes west of Salem, the state capitol. The Pacific Ocean and Cascade Mountains are an hour’s drive from the city.
Monmouth is home to Western Oregon University (WOU), a 4-year institution of higher education, offering a variety of degree programs to more than 6,000 students. Established in 1856, the University has had several names throughout the years and is currently the oldest public university in Oregon and on the West Coast.
