Decompression sickness (DCS) is caused by gas bubbles that form in the body during and after decompression, and the current thought is that these bubbles originate only on the venous side of the circulatory system. Researchers at the EUBS meeting in Ravenna have just released work that illustrates a new mechanism of DCS, where bubbles can form in distal arteries. If proven, this new approach could tie some loose ends in our understanding of DCS. Learn more.
