In 1955, Dr. Mode L. Stone, a native of Blountstown, FL and a professor in the College of Education at Florida State University opened a home for students to live rent-free and cooperatively while pursuing their degrees. He made it possible for these students to stay in school and follow their dreams. This house was the first of many Southern Scholarship Foundation houses. Today, the Southern Scholarship Foundation owns and operates 27 scholarship houses at 7 different campuses in the state of Florida.
