The Florida Future Farmers of America (FFA) was chartered in 1929 as the premier youth leadership organization for students enrolled in Agricultural Education. Found in all 50 states and several United States territories, FFA boasts more than a half million student members nationwide. In Florida, there are more than 15,000 middle school, high school and collegiate FFA members. Student members belong to chapters organized at the local school level where agricultural education instructors serve as chapter advisors. Chapters are organized under state associations headed by an advisor and executive secretary.
In 1988, the official organization name was changed to the National FFA Organization at the national level and the Florida FFA Association at the state level. This change was made to reflect the broadening field of agriculture, which today encompasses more than 300 careers in everything from agriscience to biotechnology to turf grass management.
Through active participation in the FFA, members learn by conducting chapter meetings, speaking in public, participating in Career Development Events (CDEs), earning awards and recognition, participating in Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs and becoming involved in cooperative efforts and community improvement. The FFA offers opportunities for becoming productive citizens in our democracy.
FFA members believe in leadership, citizenship, and patriotism. They believe in free enterprise in making their homes, schools, and communities' better places in which to live and work.
The Florida FFA Association is a resource and support organization that does not select, control or supervise local chapter or individual member activities except as expressly provided for in the state FFA constitution, bylaws or policies.
