The 15th Annual Youth Memorial Fund Golf Tournament for the Alger Regional Community Foundation will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Pictured Rocks Golf Club.

Nebel Fund $ 1,300 Alger Beautification Peoples State Bank Fund $ 1,300 Unrestricted Unrestricted Fund $ 4,000 Unrestricted PHLAG Fund $1,300 Youth/Seniors MCFYP $6,400 Youth Programs TOTAL 2017 SPRING GRANT MONIES AVAILABLE $20,500 ARCF was established in 1996 to provide support to enhance the quality of life in Alger County through the building and growth of “permanent endowment funds” from a wide range of donors. ARCF focuses grant making to address community needs and enhance opportunities in the areas of charity, education, culture, environment, recreation, youth, and social welfare. The following grants were given during 2016 Granting Cycle: (1) Alger Co. Food Pantry To purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from local stores to be given out to clients of the Alger Community Food Pantry for families in need; (2) Alger Parks and Recreation Department – Gaga (Form of Dodge Ball Played with a Soft Foam Ball) Outside Fun, Octagonal Pit. A fun and easy game all ages can play (3) Bay Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America – Purchase of Boat Motor to provide access to the 53-acre Bunting Camp at Lake Hiawatha enhancing opportunities for merit badges in: Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Management and Nature (4) Grand Marias Gets Looped Program – To make the Grand Marais Frank W. Mead Community Center & the Library accessible to the hard of hearing population by providing a looped system. (5) MSU Community Tool Library – Provision of tools and training for on-farm workshops and classroom visits (6) Munising Baptist Computer Lab – To purchase new computer towers – expanding students’ knowledge of typing, media relations and evolving computer technology (7) MBTN Trail Kids Program – To purchase safety gear and youth mountain bikes to enable the MBTN volunteers to offer a free six-week instruction program for Alger County Youth (8) Munising Public Schools Baby Think It Over Program – To provide students of MHS the opportunity to experience being the sole provider for an infant simulator (9) Watershed Partnership– To provide funds to deploy, retrieve and maintain 3 observation buoys in Lake Superior on an annual basis (10) Mather Chrome in Classroom– To purchase chrome book computers for the third grade (two for each classroom) (11) Women’s Center– To provide support to Alger Co. victims of domestic violence (12) City of Munising – City Beautification Project made each year through the Richard Wm. Nebel Endowment Fund (13) Is It the Right Time to Write Program (Burt Township) Celebrating local writers & to provide opportunities for creative writing in the community – grant given from the J.E.A.N. Fud; and (14) Munising Public Schools, Superior Central Schools, Burt Township Schools, Onota Township Schools, Munising Baptist School, MSU Extension and Alger Parks & Rec. Dept. Youth Memorial Endowment Fund – Youths in need programs. In addition, ARCF will provide for its future by passing on knowledge and skills to the next generation by building leadership through the Youth Advisory Committee. The Alger Regional Community Foundation currently has assets of approximately $3 million dollars, and operates well under $15.00 per day and on a volunteer basis.
